Debt collectors cannot harass, oppress or abuse any person. For example, they cannot use threats of violence or harm to property or reputation, publish a list of consumers who refuse to pay their debts (except to a credit bureau), use obscene or profane language, repeatedly use the telephone to harass someone, telephone people without identifying themselves or advertise your debts. Debt collectors cannot use any false, deceptive or misleading representations when collecting a debt. They cannot falsely imply that they are an attorney or government representative, falsely imply that you have committed a crime, falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit bureau, misrepresent the amount of the debt, indicate that papers being sent are legal forms when they are not, or indicate that the papers being sent are not legal forms when they are.
